Mayor Ed Holder - 2019 Spirit of Service Award Recipient

Mayor Edwin A. Holder

November 17, 2021

The Honourable Mayor Edwin (Ed) Holder has been a strong supporter of the Shine Foundation for almost 25 years, contributing his time, talent and treasure towards our cause.

Mayor Holder's involvement with Shine began with The Sunshine Golf Classic, one of our largest third party fundraising events. From 1998–2005, the Sunshine Golf Classic raised over $1.3 million, establishing the County Heritage/Stevenson & Hunt Endowment Fund in 2003. The Fund was created to support Shine's mission in perpetuity – a unique initiative that Mayor Holder implemented along with colleagues from the business community.

He was a Volunteer Board member from 2012–2017, and the Chair of the Board for 2017.  During that time, he helped establish the National Fund Development Committee and was an active participant from 2014–2017. In 2014, while an MP, Mr. Holder was instrumental in creating and hosting the Sunshine On The Hill event in Ottawa for several years, helping to spread awareness of Shine's work.

His enduring support of our cause and his drive to help others makes him a truly deserving recipient of the 2019 Wayne C. Dunn Spirit of Service Award. However, due to Covid-19 induced lockdowns and restrictions, the presentation recently took place in November 2021, at an in person event in London, ON.

Mayor Holder continues to support various Shine initiatives and helps connect new people to the mission.  In his words, he "bleeds Shine"!
