Shine DreamLifts

It was 4 AM on Tuesday, December 11th, 2019. The Vancouver  International Airport began to fill with 70 Shine participants, hundreds of yellow t-shirts, and a mix of excitement and nervousness.

When the Shine team first met Kolby, she was a young teenager living with a heart condition who literally carried the ‘power’ to her heart in her handbag.

Shine programs change lives of kids and their families. But for Randy, he never thought he’d witness the powerful impact of a Shine experience twice in his lifetime.

A specialist in dealing with anxiety issues for more than 30 years, social worker, Kathy Roberts’ role is to create a connection with kids and their families and to help them solve problems in their daily life.

Seven-year-old Taylor from Paris, Ontario, was excited about going on the Shine DreamLift London 2018, but she was filled with fears. Her mom, Kelley, recalls: “When we first received the email about the DreamLift, we initially said, ‘No’.

“Dreams really are coming true.” News of the first ever Shine DreamLift hit the London and area papers in October 1987.

Planning a Shine DreamLift is a job suited for the best team of superheroes. The skills and superpowers of the best coordinators goes into orchestrating our one-day whirlwind adventure to Disney and back.

“Walt Disney World, here we come!” On Tuesday, April 24, 2018, approximately 80 kids with the Shine Foundation will be participating in the 63rd Shine DreamLift.

Many of the young people across Canada who are impacted by Shine's programs live with multiple diagnoses, some of which may fall under the umbrella of mental health. Anxiety and depression are common amongst Shine recipients.
